Julie Naturally is here to help you make the transition to a more peaceful, joyful, relational way of homeschooling, especially if you have special needs kids. I personally know the turmoil of feelings that come with mothering and teaching children with ADHD or Asperger’s. I have tried a strict curriculum approach and maybe you have, too. That didn’t work so well with my kids who need novelty every week, short lessons, and struggle with boredom.
It also didn’t work so well with my kids who needed everything to be about their particular obsessive interest, didn’t transition well, and struggled with regulation and sensory issues. So, I turned to unschooling, or rather a collaborative, modified unschooling approach, but still unschooling, nonetheless.
Now, I strongly promote Christian unschooling because I believe that it respects God’s developmental timeline for your child and embraces his/her God-given gifts and talents in a way no other style of homeschooling does. It is also one of the best ways to educate your special needs child, especially a wiggly ADHD one! That way, you can indulge the tendency to hyper-focus. Or, if you have an Aspie, her obsessive passions.
It is NOT unparenting if done correctly. There’s a lot of misinformation out there! But, I’m here to help you succeed and still live your faith, parent and disciple your child, and nurture your own gifts and talents.
To help you navigate this style of homeschooling successfully, I’ve developed a Roadmap to Unschooling Success(TM). Scroll down a bit to see that. Start at the top with Foundations. These are posts about foundational beliefs, practices, and principles that underlie everything else.
For more in-depth training, I offer a How to Unschool Successfully Masterclass that includes nine videos, two print books, a planner and template, and several other PDF resources. (U.S. residents only) I want you to succeed!
But, maybe you’d prefer to talk to someone. Maybe you don’t have time for lots of reading and need to get started right away. Or, maybe you just prefer for someone to hold your hand and answer your questions.
If this is you, you can book a homeschool coaching call. I have five, one-hour slots available each month for $50 a call. You get the benefit of my 20 years of experience homeschooling four children with special needs and my background in teaching students in homeschool co-ops.
